Maxxis Assegai DoubleDown

The Assegai is the ultimate downhill tire, co-developed by former downhill world champion Greg Minnaar. He incorporated his extensive racing experience into its design. The basic idea was to extract the best performance from existing Maxxis tread patterns.

The center of the tread incorporates the high-rolling lugs from the Minion DHF and Minion DHR II. This provides excellent rolling performance on hard surfaces, as well as grip on wet roots and rocks. Slightly modified side lugs from the HighRoller handle fast cornering. These give you a clearly defined limit and plenty of reserves at all times. Finally, the Shorty adds its tread depth, ensuring sufficient traction even on deep forest floors. With this intelligent combination, you can really let loose.

Wide Trail Casing (WT)

This special carcass construction optimizes the tread pattern and tire shape for today's wider rims. Traditional tires are designed for narrow rims and become too angular on wider rims, resulting in less than optimal performance.

WT tires are optimized for an inner rim width of 35 mm, but work excellently on all rims with an inner width between 30 and 40 mm.

Tubeless Ready (TR)

Tubeless tires offer many advantages: You can ride with lower air pressure, resulting in better traction and reduced rolling resistance. And without an inner tube, the risk of punctures is also reduced. MAXXIS TR tires are better prepared for use with sealant than other "tubeless ready" tires. Like a true UST tubeless tire, the bead of our TR tires is completely coated with a layer of rubber. This ensures successful tubeless mounting on all standard-sized rims, even on the first inflation and with minimal sealant.

Even "normal" MAXXIS MTB tires can be mounted tubeless with sealant, just like tires from other manufacturers, because the casing fabrics are very dense.

Only the new MAXXIS TR models are officially approved and guaranteed by MAXXIS for tubeless setup. Tubeless setup of other models is at your own risk.

Note: We strongly advise against the use of sealant containing ammonia. Ammonia has been proven to attack the tire casing and, depending on the amount used, can weaken it by up to 30% within just a few months.

Double Down

Doubledown tires are constructed like downhill tires: two carcass layers reinforced with a butyl insert in the sidewall. However, thanks to two 120 TPI (instead of 60 TPI) carcass layers and an aramid bead, they are lighter than downhill tires, significantly more stable and robust than TR + EXO tires, and therefore ideal for tough enduro courses.
