In preparation for the article, here is the Uphill Flow video from Bosch, with the 2015 engines.
Bosch continues to go full throttle with its eBike motors in the Pedelec sector. For 2016, however, the company not only revised the mid-engine, but also directly optimized the entire system. Shorter charging times, more power, longer ranges and many useful functions offer Pedelec riders even more fun when eBiking.
Performance Line CX mid-engine: powerful drive
With an increase of 15 Newton meters compared to the previous model, the new Performance Line CX mid-engine now has an impressive 75 Newton meters of torque. Thanks to the wide speed range, the high torque is available to the driver even at low speeds. Even at 20 revolutions per minute, the system supports the driver with powerful power through Direct Flow. Bosch is responding to the rapidly growing eMountain bike market with the Performance Line CX mid-engine and its characteristics. So it's no surprise that the maximum torque is delivered up to a cadence of 80 pedal revolutions per minute. The system's maximum support is 300%, a remarkable 25% more than last year. To ensure that the components are not damaged despite the powerful drive, Bosch gave the system the Trail Control and Gear Change Control functions.
PowerPack 500: Full of 500 Wh energy reserves
The developers also worked on the battery. The development of cells with higher energy density enabled Bosch to give the battery 25% more capacity in the same housing. The result with a capacity of 500 watt hours is also reflected in the name: PowerPack 500. On this occasion, Bosch further optimized the charging process of the battery: the energy pack is fully charged again in just 4.5 hours. If you don't have that much time or are on the go, you can already get 50% of the charge in less than two hours. Greater ranges are guaranteed with the PowerPack 500 - assuming the same conditions are of course!
Nyon: The all-in-one on-board computer with navigation
Bosch has many new features and updates available for the all-in-one Nyon on-board computer, the Nyon app and the ebike-connect portal. Thanks to multi-point navigation, up to ten intermediate destinations can be included in the route planning. E-mountain bikers can also look forward to a special route function that takes particularly suitable MTB trails into account. Nothing stands in the way of driving fun on unpaved roads! A small downer: This special mountain bike route function cannot be combined with speed pedelecs. Another new feature for the 2016 season is that the GPX data of the routes can be imported into the ebike-connect portal. Also new is the exact altitude display, which must be set manually at the start of the activity.
eShift: The electronic shifting solution
Of course, the eShift electronic shifting solution, which is available in three versions, also has some improvements in the 2016 model year. Perfectly coordinated switching processes and ideal gear ratios guarantee the driver an optimal range. The cadence-based, continuously variable automatic transmission of the NuVinci H-Sync now offers a manual 9-speed mode, previously there were only five gears. New in conjunction with Shimano Di2 is the auto-downshift function, in which the system automatically downshifts when stationary. The presetting can be made by the driver himself or by the dealer. The system offers a manual 3-speed mode for the speed-dependent and automatic SRAM DD3 Pulse hub gear.
With these innovations, Bosch is further expanding its commitment to the Pedelec sector. The main beneficiary is the e-biker, who has access to increasingly powerful systems with greater range. Some of these innovations are already available this year, such as the new Nyon functions, which will be available to end customers via a software update from this summer.
