CONTINENTAL Grand Prix 5000 S TR 28-622 folding tire
Although the Continental Grand Prix 5000 is still one of the fastest and most popular road bike tires, this did not stop the developers of the German manufacturer from launching a Tubeless-Ready (TR) version that was improved in all areas.
At first glance, the 5000 S TR is barely distinguishable from its predecessor. However, beneath the familiar Lazer Grip tread pattern lies a completely redesigned construction. Unlike the previous version, the 5000 S TR has only two layers of fabric under the tread instead of three. This ensures better adaptation to the surface and contributes significantly to a 20% reduction in rolling resistance.
Thanks to the Vectran Breaker puncture protection layer and the grippy Black Chili tread pattern carried over from the previous version, the reduced number of layers does not negatively impact puncture protection. The sidewalls still consist of three layers with a newly added protective layer. This not only improves sidewall puncture protection by 28%, but also ensures more stable tire performance at low air pressures. A new, patented tubeless construction, which eliminates the need for a sealing rubber layer, makes the tire 50 grams lighter than its predecessor.
Long awaited by many Conti fans, the new 5000 S TR is now also compatible with hookless rims. However, it can still be used with classic clincher rims and with inner tubes.
The new tubeless tire has already proven its outstanding qualities and versatility in racing. Both the World Championship title in the individual time trial and the victory at Paris-Roubaix were achieved on the 5000 ST R.
