Superior RR 2027: Carbon road bikes for maximum speed on the road

The Superior RR series is a carbon road bike for fast asphalt kilometers, intensive training, and long rides. The frame and fork are made of mid-modulus carbon, and the geometry is designed for a sporty, stretched-out riding position. At Liquid-Life, you will find the RR in three trim levels: from the mechanical Shimano 105 to the electronic 105 Di2 with carbon wheels and an integrated carbon cockpit.

Buy Superior RR road bikes at Liquid-Life

The Superior RR is aimed at ambitious road cyclists who are looking for a sporty riding position and a frame designed for low weight. It is developed in Kopřivnice at the foot of the Beskydy Mountains in the Czech Republic, where Superior has been building bicycles since 1993. The RR is suitable for fast training rides, group rides, and amateur races. It is also an option for gran fondos and long days in the saddle, provided the race-oriented geometry suits you over longer distances.

For your selection, a clear order is recommended: First, check the appropriate frame and cockpit size. Then decide whether you want to shift mechanically or electronically. Afterwards, compare the wheelset equipment. This way, you can focus your budget on the features that you actually use on your rides.

Which Superior RR model is right for you?

All RR models are based on the same mid-modulus carbon platform. The differences lie in the drivetrain, the wheels, and the cockpit. A higher model number therefore primarily indicates different equipment, not automatically a more suitable riding position.

Superior also offers an RR 9.8 with Shimano Ultegra Di2. At Liquid-Life, the RR 9.6 is the highest-equipped model in the series.

Superior RR 9.4 – mechanical shifting, budget for equipment

If you are getting started with regular road training and want to consciously avoid electronic shifting, consider the RR 9.4. The mechanical Shimano 105 offers twelve sprockets at the rear and two chainrings at the front. This version is a good fit if you prefer classic shifting and would rather allocate your budget to pedals, shoes, and a professional bike fit.

Superior RR 9.5 – electronic shifting with aluminum wheels

If you are getting into regular road training and want to consciously avoid electronic shifting, put the RR 9.4 on your shortlist. The mechanical Shimano 105 offers twelve sprockets at the back and two chainrings at the front. This version is a good fit if you prefer classic gear shifting and would rather allocate your budget to pedals, shoes, and a precise bike fit.

Superior RR 9.6 – Di2, carbon wheels and integrated cockpit

The RR 9.6 complements the Shimano 105 Di2 with DT Swiss ERC 1600 carbon wheels with a 45 mm rim depth and an integrated carbon cockpit. Superior states a weight of 7.9 kg. Compare the price premium over the RR 9.5 with what a later wheel upgrade would cost you.

Create a complete shopping list before comparing. Pedals are not included with the RR models. For every offer, check the model year, frame size, and the components installed. This way, you avoid a deal that initially seems cheaper exceeding your budget due to necessary modifications.

What technology is inside the Superior RR?

mid-modulus carbon frame

The mid-modulus carbon frame forms the common basis of the series. Superior designs it for low weight and high stiffness for road use. The frame concept includes internal cable routing, thru-axles, flat-mount disc brakes, and a threaded BSA bottom bracket. However, neither concrete bottom bracket stiffness nor a measurable comfort advantage can be derived from the fiber designation alone. More meaningful are traceable construction and testing: Superior develops and assembles in Kopřivnice, where it documents its own testing and manufacturing processes.

Mechanical or electronic shifting

In terms of the drivetrain, the mechanical Shimano 105 is contrasted with the electronic Shimano 105 Di2. Di2 executes gear shifts electronically and allows for custom mapping of specific shifting functions. In everyday use, this also requires checking the battery level. You charge the battery via the port on the rear derailleur without having to remove it.

For mountainous tours, you should check the gear ratios. The RR 9.5 is specified with a compact crankset featuring 50 and 34 teeth as well as an 11-34 cassette, and the RR 9.6 also features an 11-34 cassette. This makes even long climbs and Alpine passes easily manageable. Base your choice on the gradients of your usual routes, rather than just the name of the groupset.

Carbon wheels and integrated cockpit

On the RR 9.6, the 45 mm deep carbon rims and the integrated handlebar-stem unit ensure a clean front end with no exposed cables. However, no specific wattage savings can be derived from these features. When it comes to the integrated cockpit, check the handlebar width and stem length especially carefully, as both form a fixed combination. If you do not yet know your preferred cockpit dimensions, clarify which sizes are fitted before purchasing and how an exchange would be handled.

How is the geometry of the Superior RR?

The Superior RR has a race-oriented geometry with an elongated, aerodynamic riding position, a compact head tube, and direct steering response. The frame sizes are given in centimeters; at Liquid-Life, you will find the RR from 49 to 58 cm.

What do stack and reach reveal?

Stack is the vertical distance between the bottom bracket and the top of the head tube, reach is the horizontal distance. A lower stack with a comparable reach means a lower front end of the frame. Your actual hand position also depends on the stem, spacers, and handlebar shape. Two road bikes with similar frame dimensions can therefore feel different. Always compare the achievable grip position in addition to the geometry data; especially for long rides, this is more helpful than a general classification of "sporty" or "comfortable".

Finding the right size

Do not assume your previous size without checking. Instead, note the measurements of your well-fitting bike and compare them with the geometry data of the road bike, including the installed stem length. If you are between two sizes, have both options checked for the desired handlebar height and reach, rather than deciding based solely on a height chart. During a test ride, also clarify which handlebar height is possible with the existing setup and approved spacers.

Applications of the Superior RR Series

  • Fast training rides on asphalt
  • Group rides and club rides
  • Amateur races and road bike marathons
  • Gran fondos and long days in the saddle
  • Alpine passes and long climbs

For a gran fondo, it is advisable to test the complete setup beforehand on a longer ride with a similar terrain profile. Check whether you can comfortably use the brake levers and drop bars over longer sections and whether the gear ratio suits you on steep climbs.

Superior RR or Superior XR?

The RR is a pure road bike. If your rides regularly take you over gravel or forest paths, the Superior XR gravel series is the perfect alternative.

Compare the tires actually mounted and the gear ratio, as the model name alone does not indicate its suitability for your route. For all-weather commutes or multi-day tours with luggage, the XR is the more obvious choice as a base.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Superior RR

Which country does Superior come from? Pfeil runter

Superior is based in the Czech Republic and has been building bicycles since 1993. Development and assembly are located at the site in Kopřivnice at the foot of the Beskydy Mountains, and the brand belongs to BIKE FUN International. This confirms a clear European development and assembly location, but not a European origin for all supplied components.

How much does a Superior RR weigh? Pfeil runter

The weight depends on the equipment. Superior specifies approximately 8.45 kg for the RR 9.5 and around 7.9 kg for the RR 9.6. These values do not automatically apply to every frame size. If the weight is a decisive factor for your decision, always compare bikes in the same condition and take the equipment you actually carry with you into account.

What tire width fits the Superior RR? Pfeil runter

The RR 9.6 comes factory-fitted with 28 mm wide Schwalbe Pro One Evo tires. Superior specifies a tire clearance of up to 32 mm, which allows you to gain a little more comfort if needed. When doing so, consider the combination of tire and rim: a different inner rim width will change the actual tire cross-section. For a tubeless conversion, both the tire and rim must be suitable; the wheels on the RR 9.6 are Tubeless Ready.

Is the Superior RR suitable for long-distance rides and Gran Fondos? Pfeil runter

Yes, long road rides are part of the intended use. The deciding factor is whether you can comfortably maintain the sporty seating position for several hours. For more comfort, it is worth starting with a careful adjustment of the tire pressure to your weight and the tire width; you must adhere to the permissible pressure limits of the tire and rim while doing so.

What is the difference between RR 9.5 and RR 9.6? Pfeil runter

Both models feature Shimano 105 Di2 shifting. The RR 9.6 additionally comes with DT Swiss ERC 1600 carbon wheels with a 45 mm rim depth and an integrated carbon cockpit, while the RR 9.5 has aluminum wheels and a separate handlebar and stem. Those who want to flexibly adjust their cockpit measurements will find it easier with the RR 9.5; those who want carbon wheels straight from the factory will prefer the RR 9.6.
