After eight generations and over twenty years of development, it is not just the fastest Tarmac ever – it is the fastest race bike in the world. Are you ready?
Aerodynamics and low weight alone don't win races – speed at the finish line is what matters. Achieving race speed requires a very specific balance of aerodynamics, lightness, stiffness, and compliance.
Through race simulations using real-world data, our Ride Science team has found that the Tarmac SL8 is the fastest race bike ever built on key routes. A full 16.6 seconds faster over 40 km, 128 seconds faster at Milan–San Remo, and 20 seconds faster on the Tourmalet.
AERO AVANT-GARDE:
For us, aerodynamics are the surfaces that truly matter, not just the ones that look the best. With this philosophy, we have created our most aerodynamic race bike ever. And yes, it is more aerodynamic than the Venge. The newly designed head tube of the Tarmac SL8 maintains airflow better because the surface at the front is more pointed. We call it the "Speed Sniffer," and with it, the streamlined cross-section of the head tube generates significantly less drag.
Furthermore, in accordance with the new UCI rules, we have developed the narrowest and most aerodynamic Specialized seatpost ever for the Tarmac SL8. This allows fast-moving, turbulent air to flow away more cleanly around the legs. A bike with a knack for victory.
MINIMAL WEIGHT, MAXIMUM AERO:
The Tarmac SL8 utilizes insights from the development of the Aethos to easily reach the UCI weight limit while maintaining a full aero setup. Our team has developed an incredible 685-gram frame – 15% lighter than the Tarmac SL7 and lighter than any other bike on the World Tour. The fact that Kasper Asgreen rode our Aethos with its 585-gram frame in a Tour stage doesn't really count here. New technical capabilities enabled us to optimize the weight of the down tube, seat tube, and rear end of the Tarmac, as the new frame shape distributes loads so efficiently that additional carbon layers for increased stiffness are no longer necessary.
LIGHTNING-FAST ACCELERATION WITH MORE COMFORT:
Thanks to a massive improvement in the stiffness-to-weight ratio – an astounding 33% over the SL7 – the Tarmac SL8 takes legendary handling, aggressive responsiveness, and World Tour-proven geometry to a new level. The bike is stiffer at the bottom bracket, more precise at the bars, and more compliant in the saddle, setting new benchmarks for the performance and comfort of competitive bikes.
Our Rider-First Engineering™ concept ensures that every rider, regardless of size, enjoys the same ride quality and handling. In the saddle, the Tarmac SL8 offers 6% more compliance. It glides smoothly over rough roads – unique in the high-tension world of road cycling. And when conditions demand it, 32 mm tire clearance allows for higher-volume tires.
GENDER-NEUTRAL:
Our product development experience tells us that there can be more differences between two riders of the same gender than between two riders of different genders. Gender alone does not provide a basis for gender-specific geometries.
