The Bosch SX motor forms the foundation of the light E-MTB concept. The compact drive unit weighs around two kilograms, making it lighter than a typical full-power motor. This reduces the overall weight and makes it easier for Cube to develop a slim frame. Thanks to the position of the motor and battery near the bottom bracket, the center of gravity remains low and central.

The current versions of the Cube AMS Hybrid ONE44 use the Bosch Performance Line SX with up to 60 Nm of torque. Older model specifications may still list 55 Nm.

The peak output is up to 600 watts. These figures already show that the SX does not ride like a weak touring motor. However, its power is delivered differently than with a Bosch CX.

The Bosch SX motor reacts particularly strongly to a sporty cadence. If you ride in an easy gear with a higher cadence, the drive can effectively provide its power. This suits active mountain bikers who also put pressure on the pedal themselves, even with a motor. Conversely, those who ride in a heavy gear with a low cadence do not fully utilize the system's potential.

The Bosch CompactTube 400 provides the Cube AMS Hybrid ONE44 with a capacity of 400 Wh. This makes the battery smaller than those in full-power e-MTBs with 750 or 800 Wh. The difference is part of the concept. A compact battery saves weight, requires less space in the down tube, and allows for a frame shape that is closer to a standard mountain bike.

The CompactTube 400 weighs approximately two kilograms. It has a high energy density and is firmly integrated into the down tube. Its position close to the motor concentrates the heavier system components in the lower area of the frame. As a result, the bike reacts predictably to changes in direction and is easier to lift over roots or trail edges.

Permanently integrated means that the battery is not intended for regular removal by the rider. You charge it via the charging port on the bike. You should take this into account before purchasing if your bicycle parking area does not have a power outlet. For many garages, basements, and bicycle boxes, a suitable power connection is therefore practical.

A fixed range specification is not very meaningful for an E-MTB. Elevation gain, assistance level, rider weight, tire pressure, terrain, and temperature all influence consumption. Cadence also plays a role with the Bosch SX. A steady riding style in an appropriate gear usually requires less energy than frequent acceleration in a high assistance level.

The CompactTube 400 can be sufficient for sporty laps and many common day tours. If you are planning long routes with significant elevation gain, you should estimate the energy requirements more precisely before the tour or take the Bosch PowerMore 250 with you. The system thus allows for a clear choice: low weight for short laps or additional capacity for longer days.

• Use Eco or Tour mode on simple forest paths and flat connecting routes.
• Shift to a lower gear before steep sections so that the motor can operate efficiently.
• Avoid unnecessarily low tire pressure, as high rolling resistance reduces range.
• Check the charge level and the planned elevation gain before long tours.
• Take into account a lower usable range at low temperatures.

The smaller battery is no substitute for careful tour planning. However, it prevents you from having to carry the weight of a large battery on every short ride. This is precisely the practical advantage of a light E-MTB.

Choose the AMS Hybrid ONE44 if you are looking for an e-MTB that is easy to maneuver through tight corners and doesn't feel sluggish on flat trail sections. The lower weight also helps with loading, carrying the bike over obstacles, and making small corrections on the trail. Riders with experience on a non-electric mountain bike will usually feel right at home with its natural handling.

The AMS also makes sense if your rides don't constantly require maximum battery capacity. For a quick trail loop, you can leave the PowerMore at home. For a longer tour, you can add it if needed. This way, you only carry the extra weight when you actually need it.

The Stereo Hybrid is suited for riders who want to tackle many steep vertical meters with powerful assistance. The Bosch CX provides plenty of thrust even at lower cadences. The large battery creates reserves for long days, repeated climbs, and frequent use of high assistance levels.

On fast, rough descents, the higher weight can provide stability. However, it requires more effort during slow changes of direction, tight switchbacks, and playful lines. If range and uphill performance are your most important criteria, choose the Stereo Hybrid. If you are looking for an agile trail bike with modulated assistance, the AMS Hybrid is a better fit.

The Pro already offers the complete basic concept of the model series. You get a carbon frame, the Bosch SX motor, and a full-fledged suspension system with 140 millimeters of travel. It is suitable for riders who can do without electronic shifting and particularly lightweight components.

The Race focuses more strongly on off-road use. The RockShox suspension and SRAM Transmission are designed for robust performance. With a weight of approximately 19.8 kilograms, it is indeed the heaviest model in the series, but remains significantly lighter than many full-power e-MTBs. The Race is a sensible choice if you value durable trail components more than the lowest weight.

The SLX marks the start of the C:68X class. The lower frame weight, the Fox 36 Float SL, and the electronic Shimano XT Di2 drivetrain result in a fast, precise bike. The model weight is approximately 17.5 kilograms. This makes the SLX suitable for longer tours and riders who actively maneuver the bike across the trail.

The TM is set up with a greater focus on descents. The Fox 36 and the Float X shock offer more reserves for long, rough descents. Tires with a grippy casing and powerful brakes increase control, but add extra weight. The TM weighs approximately 18.8 kilograms. Choose it if traction and suspension reserves are more important to you than every saved gram.

The Bosch PowerMore 250 increases the capacity of the CompactTube 400 by 250 Wh. Together, this provides a total of 650 Wh. This brings the Cube AMS Hybrid ONE44 into a range that is also attractive for longer rides with significant elevation gain. The additional battery is mounted externally on the down tube using a designated mount.

Installation is similar to attaching a water bottle. The PowerMore is secured in its holder and connected to the system via a cable. The Bosch Smart System recognizes the additional battery. Complicated switching between the energy sources is not necessary.

• The additional battery can be mounted only for rides where you need it.
• The bike retains its low base weight without the PowerMore.
• The battery uses the designated mount on the down tube.
• The system manages the energy supply automatically.

The range extender increases the bike's weight by approximately one and a half kilograms, plus the mount and cables. The center of gravity also shifts slightly, as the battery is positioned on the outside of the down tube. This difference is less noticeable than when using a large 750 or 800 Wh battery permanently.

The Bosch PowerMore 250 is particularly well-suited for weekend trips, holiday rides, and long routes in the Alps or low mountain ranges. On shorter rides, you can leave it at home and use the lightweight base setup. For a day tour, you can mount it before you head out. This flexibility is one of the key advantages of the AMS concept.

Please note that the auxiliary battery occupies the space on the down tube. A water bottle usually cannot be mounted there at the same time while the battery is in use. For longer tours, you will therefore need another solution, such as a hydration pack or a hip bag with a hydration system.
